Diocesan San Lorenzo Ruiz Fiesta will be held on Sat., Sept. 29 in Carmichael
The Filipino Apostolate of the Diocese of Sacramento will host the first annual diocesan San Lorenzo Ruiz Fiesta on Saturday, Sept. 29, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. John the Evangelist Parish, located at 5751 Locust Ave. in Carmichael.
The martyr, San Lorenzo Ruiz de Manila, is the first Filipino saint. This year marks the 25th anniversary of his canonization. When told to renounce his Catholic faith to avoid martyrdom, San Lorenzo Ruiz de Manila replied: “I will never deny the faith, because I am a Christian, and I shall die for God, and for him I would give many thousands.”
Bishop Jaime Soto will preside at Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church at 10 a.m. followed by a procession. The morning liturgy will be followed by the fiesta, which will include a ministry fair, Filipino lunch and entertainment of songs and dances in the Tralee Center.
