Peter's Pence Collection taken up parishes in diocese June 23-24

Catholics throughout the Diocese of Sacramento will be asked to contribute to the Peter’s Pence Collection as a special second collection during liturgies on the weekend of June 23-24.

The funds from the collection allow Pope Benedict XVI to provide emergency assistance to victims of war, disaster, oppression and disease.

The collection helps the Holy Father strengthen dioceses, religious orders and struggling communities of faith when they need it the most. In many places around the globe, the church struggles to be a visible sign of Christ’s peace: in poor dioceses where many depend on the church for social and pastoral support; in regions where Catholics are persecuted and must be helped discreetly; in nations overloaded with refugees or victims of war and natural disasters.
