Chaldean Catholic Church in Orangevale is consecrated

Bishpo Mar Sarhad Yawsip Jammo, eparch of the Catholic Diocese of St. Peter the Apostle for Chaldeans and Assyrians, presided at the consecration of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, located at 7625 Hazel Ave. in Orangevale, on the evening of March 25.

Several priests of the Diocese of Sacramento were present for the consecration, including Father Michael Kiernan, officer for ecumenical and interreligious affairs for the diocese and rector of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Sacramento.

Father Kamal Bidawid serves as administrator of the church and Neal Nofaley is sub-deacon. Nofaley was ordained a sub-deacon of the Chaldean Catholic Church in Sacramento in 1984. Tom Simon serves as bishop representative.

The Chaldean Catholic Church is an Eastern particular church of the Catholic Church, maintaining full communion with the Bishop of Rome and the rest of the Roman Catholic Church. The Chaldean Catholic Church presently comprises an estimated 1.5 million Chaldean Christians who are ethnic Assyrians.
